Here is Burnt, by David Foldvari. I like this image because it shows the textures on both the man, as well as the sausage. The pinks and purples combined give the image more of a three dimensional feel to it, darkening in the creases of the mans face which makes it feel like it is an actual person.
ARTIST EVALUATION.
From looking at this image closely, I have tried to interpret what the artist has done to create this piece. I looked at the background and realised that it looks as if it is imported. I came to this decision because it doesn't quite look as it has been marked with pencil smudges and doesn't look as realistic. The main image looks as if it has been hand-drawn and scanned into Photoshop. I think the lines have been drawn over to thicken to make bolder, rather then normal pencil lines. On a fourth layer, I believe David Foldvari has added in the colours as it doesn't quite look like it could be made using paints or pencils. I believe Foldvari would of used about 3 layers to do the various colours. On the 8th layer I think he would've changed the levels and curves to increase the contrast in the image.
As I really enjoy messing around on Photoshop CS5, I did this to my friends. I took a normal image and completely coloured them in. In my opinion, they look like a cross between a Clown and Smurfs. I created this by taking a simple image in the studio. I first turned the image black and white so the colours don't majorly influence the changes I make. To add the colours I first used the Quick Selection Tool, highlighting the hair on both of the models. I indended to add a red-orange colour, however it came out quite green on the model on the lefts hair. On the next layer I highlighted the eyes, eyebrows, ears and mouth. I added purple and red to these areas to give an alien kind of look. On the fifth layer, I highlighted the rest of their faces. I made the boy blue and the girl green. On the next layer, I highlighted the girls hands and the boys jacket. I made both of these red, however the girls left hand came out a bit darker then I had hope. On the next three layers, I selected the rest of their clothes adding in bright and bold colours. Finally, I finished off on the tenth layer by whitening their teeth to make them stand out more. I feel the final result is average, as I had more fun then trying to make a serious piece.
With this image, I recreated Platon's photograph of Jude Law.
The outcome I feel came out quite well. I did this by first shooting in the studio, using a high key background. It was an easy shoot to do as it is quite basic and simple to recreate. I then imported the image I wanted to use into Photoshop to begin editing. I did very little tweaking as the image I chose had good exposure and composition. First I increase the levels to add a bit more exposure and "white-ness" to the image. Next, I changed the curves, to give more contrast between the black clothing my model was wearing with the background. I only used three layers for this image and I'm quite proud of the finished piece.
